President Obama's Education Reform Message

""Education is the key to economic success."

President Obama recently issued this quote to the nation and proposed a thorough examination of America's educational system.

In two-three paragraphs explain some of the President's proposals for educational reform and what, in your opinion, do you think he meant by the quote. Factors to consider are competition in a changing, global economy and the realities of limited resources to deal with this issue.

In recent months, President Barack Obama has been planning on reforming education in the United States of America. His solution can be broken into three different parts: improving K-12 schooling, expanding access to higher education, and making sure children are prepared for kindergarten. Obama plans on recruiting a new workforce of teachers and developing inventive ways to reward those teachers that do a good job and supporting schools that need improvement, instead of punishing them like in the No Child Left Behind policy from the Bush administration. Obama also plans on making higher education more affordable by expanding grants and initiating new tax credits to anyone who works diligently and wants access to a college education. Lastly, Obama wants to expand programs that make sure children are prepared for kindergarten, because he believes that these years of a child's life are the most crucial. (barackobama.com)

In his quote "Education is the key to economic success," President Obama makes allusion to the fact that a well educated work force is the only way to compete in a global economy. If citizens in the Untied States are to be more successful, they need to be more desirable in the workforce. Education leads to technological progress and more productivity, which increases our quality of lives and standard of living. Education has a positive impact on the economy and it is vital that we ensure that our education institutions are high quality.

The United States used to be one of the leading countries in education. Over time we have ranked lower and lower on that list when compared to other countries. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act includes $5 billion for early learning programs,Early Head Start, child care, and programs for children with special needs. The Act also provides $77 billion for reforms to strengthen elementary and secondary education, including $48.6 billion to stabilize state education budgets. (whitehouse.com)College financial aid will also be more attainable to college students. Obama also wants to increase the standards of education to students can be more prepared and more marketable when it comes to competing for a job.
"Education is the key to economic success." This quote means that in order for our economy to thrive, people need to be educated in order to get the jobs that can make them successful and able t support a family. Like Erik said, education leads to technological progress and more productivity. Education can improve peoples lives because they will get a job that can raise their standard of living and help people stay out of poverty.

The United States used to be one of the leading countries in education. But as time has past by and our economy has fallen, it has become one of the lowest. President Barack Obama has an Education Reform going, with a No Child Left Behind. Stating they will help the schools that need improvement, not punish them. It also states that they will recruit new/higher educated teachers, push for a better and higher edcuation throughout school and make sure any child going into kindergarten is influenced the right way.

President Barack Obama's quote, "Education is the key to an economic success." is stating that if you are not fully educated when you get into the work force, you will go no where in a global economy. By having a better education it will improve peoples choice of jobs and have less people living in poverty throughout our great country.

President Obama recently issued to the quote, "Education is the key to economic success." Obama’s statement suggests that providing a high-quality education for all students in all areas of life is essential to America’s economic future. A skilled workforce is a productive workforce. In this day in age, success in our global economy relies heavily on a knowledgeable and innovative work force. Without proper education- or without a means to a proper education- the aptitude of the American people has diminished dramatically.
On the higher education front, “…Obama is committed to ensuring that America will regain its lost ground and have the highest proportion of students graduating from college in the world by 2020.” (http://www.whitehouse.gov/issues/education) President Obama is committed to increasing the success rate of higher education completion, as well as access to higher education. He plans to expand college financial aid; while making federal programs, simpler, more efficient and more reliable for students. Obama also plans to invest capital in community colleges across America in order to endow a larger amount of people with skills and education for markets in emerging industries

Obama, fearful of America's steady lag in regards to maths and sciences in comparison to other countries, has proposed sweeping educational reforms, designed to provide financial aid to schools and students in need and to ensure that less competent educators are removed from the classroom. As the others have mentioned, he does not want to merely bring lower-level students up to par; by not focusing on the more advanced students in this manner, the average level of education begins to plateau. In general, Obama's proposals are about moving forward, not merely putting everybody on the same level.

Education, of course, is the key to economic success, as Obama mentioned. Naturally, of course, a higher education will allow for a higher job opportunity. There are also direct factors involved too, however. An ample knowledge of mathematics and science will allow for a more thorough analysis of the economy's status, and a knowledge of history can give one the ability to recognize patterns that have occurred before. Increasing the quality of the education system will create better job opportunities, as well as a population better-equipped to handle the roller coaster rises and falls of the economy.

Over the past few decades, America has fallen behind several countries in terms of the quality of its citizens' education. President Obama has decided that the nation's youth must receive a better education if they are to participate in a global economy. In order for this to occur, he has made several proposals for reforming the American education system. Two of his proposals include downsizing standardized testing and improving education in math and science.

Obama has come to the conclusion that standardized testing does not provide enough valuable feedback on student performance. While he doesn't plan on eliminating it completely, he doesn't want "fill-in-the-bubble testing" to dominate the curriculum. Instead, he is providing schools with funding so they can implement a broader range of assessments that test students on how well they use certain skills (e.g. using technology, conducting resesarch, defending ideas). Obama has also determined that math and science education must be made a top priority, as 80% of the fastest-growing occupations are reliant on knowledge in these areas. Mainly, he is recruiting math and science graduates into the teaching profession. He also plans on reforming math and science testing to test students on high-order thinking skills (e.g. logic, data analysis), instead of simply remembering facts.

Obama has recently stated: "Education is the key to economic success." By this quote, he means that American students and future workers must have the proper skills in order to function in the workforce. The best way to aquire these skills is through a high-quality education. With time and effort- on the part of the government and the public- America can become a leading nation in education once more.

Obama wants to improve the k-12 schooling because, like Sarah said, America is falling behind. If we improve our schooling than we have the chance to catch back up to the rest of the world. Also he wants to expand acess to higher education through expanding Pell Grants and new tax credits. If more citizens recieve higher education that will improve our work force efficency, and eventually improve the economy. Another plan of action is to make sure children are prepared for kindergarden. This is the most crucial part in a young ones life and Obama wants to invest in early childhood education. Investing in programs like headstart will make sure children are ready for kindergarden.

"Education is key to economic success". Obama realizes that to improve Americas economic sucess we first need to start by improving our education. If more citizens get higher education, that means more citizens will be qualified to work in many work forces. If we push on higher education more people will be motivated to work which would make the economy more efficent. America can once again be a strong nation, all we need is education.

Obama recently said that “education is the key to economic success.” What he meant was that knowledge gives people and thus the nation the power to compete in the global economy. The United States is lagging behind and Obama plans to change this by changing America’s education system and producing more able workers with the skills necessary to succeed in the current economy.

Obama plans to reform education through many directives. His first charge is to begin developing teachers with better skills and providing them with a competitive atmosphere to ensure they are always working to their highest potential. Similarly to providing funds for better teachers, Obama also wants to make pre-kindergarten education a priority in order to develop children to a point where they can be successful in the classroom from the start. Obama also recognizes that to survive in the world today, more than just K-12 schooling is necessary, and he plans to make that further education more available to all Americans by making it more affordable.
America was once a leader in the economies of the world, but it has greatly fallen behind as other countries have made leaps forward. America can be as competitive as it once was, but in order to do that, the next generation must be prepared to deal with the global economy. By putting money and incentives into the education system, Obama hopes to prepare this generation for the world.

Slowly as time goes by, the intelligence of the United States starts to decrease. The U.S. used to be the leading power in education, but now it is further back in the race. One of President Obama's proposals is to hire more math and science teachers to help improve on the skills of students, which will lead to being a world power. Another proposal is to make the school year longer. I agree, except I would make the school year for year round and have breaks in between. It may cost more money, but there will be a benefit from it.

"Education is the key to economic success". From this quote by President Obama, the main of a thriving economy is to have a good education. The more knowledge someone has, the better the company will be. If the whole nation was provided with better education, the nation would be thriving. As days go by the demand for college degrees gets higher and higher so if there is good education, there will be a successful economy.

I think that Obama is just trying to allow for a smarter United States. I do however think that he is going about it in the wrong way. It seems like he doesn't care what the students in school feel. I understand that the US has fallen behind other countries and something does need to be done. He should however be asking the students how they feel and what they think another option could be. Another thing that he could do is make it a gradual thing and that he could cut out the less important things or at least reduce them.

"Education is the key to economic success", I think that this quote means that without education the world would not be as far ahead as it is today. Other countries have pulled ahead economically and in order to be on top again education needs to be a larger focus then what it already is.

President Obama has recently proposed sweeping education reform. As previosuly stated, Obama's education reform proposal focuses on three major goals- improving K-12 schooling, expanding access to higher education, and better preparing children for kindergarten(http://www.barackobama.com/issues/education).

Obama hopes that improving these areas of education will better prepare American children to compete in the global economy. According to Obama, "Education is the key to economic success." I couldn't agree more. A proper education is absolutely necessary to achieve economic success. Sadly, many American students aren't receiving the education they need to be successful. According to a feature on this week's episode of "60 Minutes", American high schools only prepare a third of their students for college. This made me wonder what happens to the other two thirds of students? Nowadays, a college degree is practically a pre-requisite for economic sucess. Without some sort of higher education, it's practically impossible to compete in the American workforce and get by in our economy. If Americans want to be able to compete in the global economy, major education reform is necessary.

President Obama recently voiced his concern for the education system in the United States. As my fellow classmates stated, it is apparent that the US is not keeping up with other powerful countries in terms of education.

Mr. Obama breaks down his plans into three parts, improving K-12 schooling, expanding access to higher education, and making sure our children are prepared for kindergarten. He believes that we can make strides in K-12 education by hiring and fostering more motivated, knowledgeable, and effective teachers. He feels that Bush’s No Child Left Behind was unsuccessful because it was punitive, rather than rewarding good schools and helping out schools in trouble. In this economy, more than ever before, young people will need some form of higher education in order to gain employment. The president’s third point is that learning should not start in kindergarten and that success is dependent on having a good foundation.

Obama states, "Education is the key to economic success." What this quote means is that the economy is calling for our nation’s youth to be imparted with the skills and knowledge to compete on a global scale. For example, in France children get a very high quality preschool education. Preschool teachers there are required to hold a master’s degree. In some other countries the school day and school year are much longer. Also in some other countries a higher education comes at a much lower cost or is free.

I agree with president Obama that future economic success is dependent on improving education. What this country lacks is a culture that values education. This is the factor that separates us from other global economies. Children need to feel from a young age that it is the devotion to their schooling that will help them in furthering themselves and our society economically.

As other people have mentioned, the United States has fallen behind in education, especially in the subjects of math and science. Obama stated that "education is the key to economic success," meaning that iff the united states can better educate its workforce, the economy will be better off.

Obama plans to improve education in three ways, improving K-12 schooling, expanding access to higher education, and making sure our children are prepared for kindergarten. Some methods to doing this include hiring teachers who are more qualified to educate the children of America, and firing those who are not getting the job done. Also, he plans to extend the school year, due to the fact that kids forget much of what they learn each year over summer vacation.

Obama has also introduced a program called "Race to the Top". This programs allows schools to compete for federal grant money. The program calls for states to toughen academic standards, recruit and retain effective teachers, track student performance and come up with action plans to improve failing schools.

I agree with Barack Obama that better educated people are required in the workforce, and leading the country. With improved education, over time, the economy will improve as well.

President Obama's recent education plan is expected to help combat America's decline behind other countries especially in the areas of math and science. First, he has proposed a plan to influence children's learning before they reach elementary school. By using head-start programs he expects that more children will be ready for kindergarten. Second, K-12 schooling is planned to be improved by hiring better teachers and reforming No Child Left Behind, so that successful schools will be rewarded. Lastly, he plans to further ready teens and young adults for higher education.

By equipping students with the necessary knowledge to compete in this 21st century job market, the economy is expected to improve. Simply put, smarter people earn more money. By creating more families of high income, this money will be put back into the American economy and circulation, hopefully giving it a boost. Also, if America can rise in the education rankings in the fastest growing fields, it will be possible to manufacture high-tech items to sell to other countries, also improving the economy. Personally, his plan sounds pretty solid to me, but may take a long time to put into action, since the generations that are receiving the better education will not enter the workforce until some 20 years in the future. The progress will be slow, but I believe it will happen.

One of President Obama's recent valuable quotes "Education is the key to economic success." refers to the need for increased education throughout the United States. America is realizing that some of the largest growing economies in the world, (such as China- a big example), are focusing the most on the subjects math and science, which...are ultimately needed to build an economy.

Without the strong academic subjects of math and science, America will fall behind in the advancements of technology and machinery- which could hurt our country in the long run. Obama's key ideas in improving the nation's education include improving k-12 schooling, and replacing teachers who are not as qualified to teach as others.

President Obama's proposals on education will all help the nation's economy, although I disagree on the expansion of pre-k schooling, why not focus more on higher level education, such as middle school and high school, when science and math become most important?

  16. In the 21st, the emerging presence of economic superpowers such as Brazil, China, and India have put added pressure on the United States to compete globally on all economic fronts. President Obama has connected the quality of economy with the quality or quanity of education in a country. With the USA being ranked 33rd on the global list of performance on the reading examns and 27th on the math, and being surpassed by Brazil and Japan, President Obama has launched a new system of programs to improve the USA educational system and there for improve the USA economy in the long run.
One of the parts of Obama's new plan is to reform teaching by rewarding teachers who show skill and potential. By having a better teaching workforce Obama plans that each dollar spent on teacher's salary will be the counterpart to each dollar that those students can put back into the economy later on. Beyond K-12 education, Obama plans on making higer education acheiveable for every American by expanding Pell Grants and new tax credits allowing the opprtrunity for each and every hard working American.
I agree with President Obama, that education is the key to economic succes. And I agree with his plan to spend more money on the educational system. Money spent for education is verifiable because it will eventually, and hopefully, be put back into the economy with a workforce of stronger Americans. Having to compete with foreign countries for jobs, should serve as an economic push for Americans to work harder to get better obs than they could have had before.

President Obama said that “Education is the key to economic success.” He meant that to be successful people have to be educated enough to compete in a global economy. It takes educated individuals to create new innovations and keep an economy moving forward. To achieve greater education he has proposed several new plans for education reform.

Mr. Obama intends to improve education starting with the education children receive before they reach kindergarten. He hopes to expand Head Start and other programs that help ensure children are ready to enter kindergarten by the time they reach it.

Mr. Obama also intends to improve kindergarten through 12th grade schooling by recruiting new teachers and creating better incentives for good teachers. He intends to reform No Child Left Behind so that the schools that require the most improvement are supported instead of punished for failing to meet standards set by the government.

Lastly, he also intends to expand access to, and increase the number of students attending job training or other forms of higher education. He intends to expand Pell Grants and initiate new tax credits so higher education becomes more affordable. He hopes these measures will help to better equip workers for the twenty first century workplace.

  18. Obama said, "education is the key to economic success". I agree with this statement, because education can "fix" the economy. Obama first wants to start the children off young. By the time students are suppose to head off to college, some don't have the knowledge to do so. He wants to have children ready to learn before kindergarten.

Also Obama plans on reform the no child left behind, so that the schools start to take their time with with the children that don't quite get it at first and not punish for failing.

Many of you did a nice job addressing the economic implications of not having a sound educational system. I especially liked Mary's and Sarah's insights on how to address this issue.
A basic concern by parties involved is funding and state/local control vs. the federal govt. Where does the true power/ funding/ structure come from for true reform?

President Obama recently stated, "Education is the key to economic success." And, in a country with a mere 2/3 graduation rate, that is very true. As America falls farther and farther behind in education standings among other countries, reforms are being created that will, hopefully, slingshot us back towards the top.

President Obama's reform schedule will follow children from the earliest points of childhood, all the way until they reach adulthood. Obama's first initiative is to prepare children more Kindergarten. He plans to reform the Head Start program, along with other similar programs, and to invest heavily in early childhood education. Obama's next step is to improve overall K-12 education standards. This includes "recruting an army of new teachers", and rewarding those that go above and beyond to keep America's classrooms functioning smoothly. Also, the No Child Left Behind program will be reformed, so that schools that absolutely need the improvement will receive it. Obama also plans to expand access to higher education, by expanding Pell Grants and initiating new tax credits. He believes it is absolutely vital for all high school graduates to receive at least one year of job training or higher education in order to succeed, which, statistically, is very true.

President Obama meant by the aforementioned quote that somebody who is not intelligent by America's standards, or even by the world's standards, will not be able to survive in the existing global economy. And so it is imperative that we reform here and now, and Obama's initiative will hopefully place us on the right track.

"Education is the key to economic success," is a quote that was delivered all over the United States in order to address the importance of education in a young person's life. President Obama recently addressed education as a public issue and in order to "raise the bar" he has come out with many reforms to make sure students are getting the proper education. The United States has fallen behind compared to other countries as the criteria is not as pressing as it should be and it is common that students have no idea what they are doing once they head off to college.

I think Obama's statement means that education is the only way anyone is going to get a head in life financially. Anyone can get a low rate job but if you show you have had the proper training and you can provide various educational tools from what you learned then you are more likely to get a better job then someone who was a high school drop out with no college experience.

One of the most significant problems facing education today is preparing children to compete in todays global economy. Everyone is at fault for this problem. Teachers, administrators, and students. Students of other countries are excelling the United States in important subjects such as Math and Science.Obama has 1 solution made up of three parts to create a strong economy by using education.

Improve schooling kindergarten through twelfth grade, and make changes to No Child Left Behind. Schools need more adequate teachers that know how to apply todays changing world to their students. Whether good or bad this is becoming a technology based world and for teachers with old school methods their students will not respond as well with those methods as they will with new ones. The other thing is, schools that need improvement are sometimes punished instead of fixed. For example if the number of dropouts decreased, schools in tough areas will begin to improve because the state will see that they are making an effort to improve.

Expand access to higher education. This economy is looking for new employees with prior experience, and a willingness to learn. Look around you most people with good paying jobs today at least have one year of college under their belt. College is important because it shows your employer that you are going beyond what is required, and acting like an adult. Obama plans to make higher education more affordable by expanding Pell Grants,a federal need-based grant, and initiating new tax credits. That way no matter how hard money is to come by for your family, anyone can still get the education they want and need.

I agree with Obama. I think that ideas such as these will help to promote a better economy because children are the future. By helping to educate them you are improving their lives and their futures, not only their futures but their families futures for years to come. Think about it. If the government sends someone to college, and they start a family after college, people in their families are also most likely to go because their parent will influence them. I also believe that education throughout a childs entire life is important. If they are taught as a child and dropout then they will not have the skills that others there age do. By increasing technology in schools, students will be more up to date and perhaps enjoy school,or at least some classes more.

President Obama recently said, "Education is the key to economic success." Obviously, education is a huge factor to economic success due to the new technological discoveries that are being made each day. Without a proper education a person would not be able to land a high paying or even an above minimum wage job. This of course leads to an economic downfall.
One of the most significant problems facing America at this time is education in our grade schools. If students are not able to obtain a high school diploma then they run a very high risk of not getting a good job which in return does not help the economy. Another major problem is the education of school teachers. If teachers are not doing their job in the best way that they can, students cannot obtain the knowledge that they need to graduated and get into a good college. It's a vicious cycle.

In order to get a good job and be successful you need a certain level of education. Obama beleives that longer school days would benefit the education of upcoming generations. I agree with Obama's main points because the level of education has decreased over time and it is starting to show economically.
“Education is the key to economic success.” The upcoming generation of adolences need to be prepared and ready because when educated it is easier for the economy to move forward and progress.

It is said throughout our entire life that education comes first. Whether your parents say or your grandparents, or even the president. What President Obama has said is correct.

Education is what offers more options for people in jobs and careers. Usually with education people are bound to have more money which means more spending. In this economy, apart of the problem comes from people not spending money. So, with more education leading to better paying jobs, maybe people would have more money to spend. This could greatly help us get out of any Recession/Depression that could happen.
